Sumatra – Asman Gayo Mill – Pantan Musara Microlot
$39.00 – $55.00
This exceptional coffee comes from the Asman Gayo Mill, located in the Pegasing district of Takengon in Sumatra’s renowned Aceh region. Operated by Cup of Excellence winner Asman Arianto, the mill serves several small coffee producers from the Pantan Musara villages.
The producers in this region have a powerful story of resilience. Forced to leave their homes and land several years ago due to a natural disaster, they have rebuilt their lives and farms with a renewed focus on coffee cultivation. The Asman Gayo Mill has become a symbol of this recovery, enabling the community to produce coffees of outstanding quality.
Unlike most Sumatran mills, which typically process wet-hulled coffee, the Asman Gayo Mill distinguishes itself by producing both Washed and Natural process coffees. This particular Natural microlot benefits from careful, meticulous drying, which preserves the inherent sweetness and fruity character.
As an espresso, this coffee is rich, intense, and full of complexity. The cup opens with a burst of sweet tropical fruits, followed by a smooth, shiraz acidity followed by a chocolate body that adds depth and richness.
As a filter coffee, this brew is vibrant and lively, with a bright, fruity sweetness that shines through. The cup offers a smooth, well rounded body, with notes of tropical fruit and a subtle, winey complexity that lingers on the palate.
